Fifty Shades of Grey--and why it's black and white for me

I learned recently of a girl in grade three who was found flipping through a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey, the pseudo-masochistic, erotic book which has topped all bestseller lists, and is, to put it blatantly, literary pornography.

Apparently the girl told her teacher that her mom had ordered it through the library and she was bringing it home for her, and I’m weeping into my wine, wondering what kind of world allows pornography into our children’s libraries.

I am shocked as well! Let us pray that that girl's eyes will be opened and that our Pappa will show her and her mom both the holiness of sex. Sex is two people becomming one flesh, just like we be one spirit with our Lord once we come to Him and are reborn into His eternal spiritual life. Sooooo holy!!!
    Much love

  2. Dear Emily, this was truly shocking to read that a mother could subject her child so casually to a story of macabre sexual activities, with no thought of the damage it could inflict!! This is what is wrong with parents of today, they have stopped taking responsibility for parenting.. they have stopped getting involved with how their children are growing up in this world.. This particular book I have not read, as skimming the first page in the supermarket where it is on general sale, I realised that I like to read books that are well written and not full of awful stupid sexual antics. I am a voracious reader, but take the stance that to read is to give me pleasure, not submerge me in slutty sex. I feel very sad that this generation of children are not being given a proper lead.. that they are not going to church and learning all about Christianity and the way that Christians want to live. Thank you for your post, as always, thought provoking and very very on the spot!!! thank you again, Janzi

  3. Dear Em,
At this point, I am not shocked...Applauding you for standing up for our children's purity and innocence.

  4. What passes for young adult at this point is honestly disgusting. What is published at this point is beyond reason. It sickens me since I have dealt with it first hand with my 12 year old.
