what breakfast looks like at our place

just thought you all could use a little laugh :)

but seriously, this is what breakfast looks like, here. chocolate toast, or homemade strawberry jam toast, or eggos and blueberry syrup, on the deck. and yes, sometimes with babies in the nude.

(begging grace as i'm slow to visit you all at your places, this week... we've been pulling up carpet and packing for camp and vacuuming up sewer water and calling contractors and filing insurance claims for the flooding in our basement.

but my mum called me tonight, at 11 pm her time, to remind me that God loves me, even when life is very, very hard. "and i love you, too," she said. this, from a woman who nearly died from brain cancer a few years ago. thank you, God, for reminding me that you still do miracles.)

  3. I have been where you are with the carpet, we lost ours to flooding. We just replaced it this march after not having it for many years.

God does do miracles. 1 year ago I started praying for a nephew, specifically because I wanted my grandmother to be a great grandmother before she passed away.. This week my nephew was born. My life has turned from sadness/depression to Joy and being amazed at what God has done for my family!

God really does love us and cares about us even when life is hard and unexpected things happen. I will be praying for you!

  7. He will hold you, always, precious one. Sometimes when things are so very dark here, He reminds me, "Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out . . ." I'm so easily distracted by the waves crashing over the bow that I forget Who's Hand is on the rudder, bringing me always, ever closer to His Heart.

  11. love naked baby cheeks :-) too cute, & even in the chaos there is joy to be had, yes? keep on keeping on, emily! i know there are the down moments, but seizing them and calling them "good". . . this is what embeds joy in our hearts and gives us the strength to endure, i think.
thank you, as always, for sharing it with us.

  19. Love ya Em. C.S. Lewis writes in "Screwtape Letters" that God takes some of his very favorites through the deepest valleys (or troughs as Lewis calls them) in order that they should always remain so close to Him.

  22. Today I read this: what encouragement from Habakkuk!

Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
    though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.
    The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.

  23. That's great! I love all the miniature chairs. How on earth does your husband fit his knees under there. So nice to dine al fresco. Praying for an easy transition to whatever goodness God has in mind for you after the contractors leave.

  32. Amen, Emily, he still does miracles. He still does miracles. And I think – Emily - all those boys – you are having a crash course in boys that will last you the rest of your life. It does bring a smile – I'm happy for you – I'm sad for the bad things – I'm happy for your mom – and I'm happy for my print which I got in the mail the other day – it's framed best as I could do and hanging in my kitchen where I can see it – thank you for that Emily, and I'm thankful that you came by in the middle of one of the biggest struggles of my life. Every day is still a struggle to resist falling again down the rabbit hole. It has cost me so much already and continues to exact a toll – but I trudge forward – feet through heavy snow – following my light. I’ve barely been able to write posts, much less read blogs I heart. Little bits of me are returning piece by piece – and that you were there through it – that means the world to me. And I'm thankful I came here today. God bless and keep you and each and every one of yours e.
